Jammu and Kashmir lost its special status and was bifurcated on Tuesday in a historic development as Parliament approved a resolution scrapping Article 370 of the Constitution and passed a bill to split the state into two Union Territories. The Congress was also split on Tuesday as a large number of leaders, mostly the young, supported the government's move while the old guard, backed by Rahul Gandhi, opposed it. Currently, the situation is calm and peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir. While heavy troop deployment and Section 144 are still in place in the state, counter-infiltration and counter-terrorist grid of the Army is deployed both on the LoC and in the hinterland.
