The world lost a champion of the senses today. Anthony Bourdain, celebrated Chef, author and television personality, took his own life early this morning in Strasbourg, France. Bourdain was no stranger to life's seemingly infinite struggles - he had coped with addiction earlier in his career - and perhaps that was why his utter revelry global food and culture felt so goddamn real.
Bourdain was very vocal in his support for the underrepresented - from Harvey Weinstein's accusers (including his girlfriend, Asia Argento) to marginalized populations of third world countries. He opened peoples eyes, ears, and taste buds in a way not many people can share. His wisdom was not reserved to this egalitarian warmth - the rock and roll boozehound had a keen wit and a filter thinner than cheesecloth.
